About Medical Billing and Coding Careers in Washington DC

Washington DC Medical Billing and Coding associates work in hospitals, doctors offices, and even in some cases from home. Their job requires them to handle the billing and coding of medical claims from clients to insurance companies. This, in general, requires the proper training. A prospective student would first need to ensure that they are fully aware of what would be expected of them in the medical billing and coding field and that this is the field they would like to work in.

The medical billing and coding programs deal with the major insurance companies and their coding guidelines. For each and every procedure there is a code and in many cases several codes. The student would have to commit many of these codes to memory. These codes are very important as they carry a particular fee, reimbursement fee, and allowable coverage amount for that particular insurance provider. A simple twist in numbers could not only alter the patients medical records but it could also end with the patient paying a very large sum that the insurance did not cover.
