The Central Texas College (CTC) Continued Department of education is now accepting applications for a wide range of healthcare professional programs. Enrollment is currently open for the Clinical Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and new Phlebotomy and Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs, which are accessible in the day, evenings, or on Weekends. Applicants will be eligible to undertake the certification test in their chosen fields after completing each career training program.

The Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) program is a cohort that provides expertise to support physicians with operations, patient care, basic lab testing, and drug administration. Awareness of bodily components and their operations, medical terminology, specimen collection, oral and injectable medication administration, and patient communication are among the program goals. Medical Assistant Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Anatomy and Physiology for Medical Assistants, Medical Assistant Laboratory Procedures, Clinical Processes, Advanced Medical Assistant Technician, Administrative Procedures, and an additional clinical experience are among the classes offered. 

Career training program – Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician career training program trains students to help pharmacists in packaging or mixing medicines, maintaining patient information, referring clients to the pharmacists for counselling, assisting with managing inventory and buying, and collecting payment and coordinating invoicing. It is also a batch of four classes that must be taken in the order that they are given.

It includes in-depth coverage of hospital pharmacy organization, workflow and personnel, safety techniques, data entry, packaging and labelling operations, in-patient drug distribution systems including investigational drugs, continuous quality improvement and inventory control.

Career training program – Phlebotomy

The Phlebotomy career training program is a non-credit option to the certification program at CTC. It provides a comprehensive study of phlebotomy and the accompanying skills necessary to become a phlebotomist. The non-credit certificate course lasts 16 weeks and teaches students how to undertake a variety of blood collection procedures utilizing correct practices and acceptable safeguards. Vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles, blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children, and newborns are all included.

Healthcare Diagnostics Sonography is a radiology imaging speciality. Ultrasound is used by sonography instruments to generate pictures of inside organs and tissues. Learners will learn to do diagnostic exams, which create images of the human body and muscles in the body using high-frequency sound waves, via academic learning and guided clinical experience. It is used to detect prenatal malformations, congenital problems, malignancies and benign tumours, among other illnesses and disorders.

The curriculum includes four courses: 

  • Introduction to Sonography
  • Medical Sonography Techniques
  • Intermediate Ultrasound Physics
  • Advanced Ultrasound Physics as well as a sonography clinical.

Career training program  – Veterinary Assistant

As a qualified veterinary assistant, you will support the veterinarian or veterinarian assistant with their everyday duties. In labs, animal hospitals, and clinics, students will learn to feed and water pets, check them for symptoms of illness, disease, or injury, clean and sanitize cages and workspaces, and sanitize lab and surgical instruments.

The Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) curriculum is divided into two parts: the CVA Basic Course and the CVA Intermediate Program.

By enrolling in these programs, you will get the information required to assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in their everyday responsibilities, as well as develop basic and advanced abilities.

Career training program availability

The CTC health care career training program is available from Jan. 18 to Sept. 1 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon or 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from Jan. 22 to Sept. 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Pharmacy Technician career training program is available Tuesday/Thursday, Jan. 18–July 21, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. or 5:30–9:30 p.m.; Monday/Wednesday, Jan. 19–Aug. 3, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. or 5:30–9:30 p.m.; and Saturdays, Jan. 22–July 23, 5:30–9:30 p.m.

The Phlebotomy career training program is available Tuesday/Thursday, Jan. 18–March 24, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. or 5–9 p.m.; Monday/Wednesday, Jan. 19–March 23, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. or 5–9 p.m.; or Saturdays, Jan. 22–March 26, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

The Sonography career training program is available Tuesday/Thursday, Jan. 18–April 2, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. or 5–9 p.m.; and Monday/Wednesday, Jan. 19–May 4, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. or 5–9 p.m.
