What Is A Medical Billing and Coding Job?
The job itself is the handling of medical related tasks within any doctor’s office or hospital. The job requires filing of medical forms, filling out and filing of claim forms, updating patient files and data, set up admissions to hospitals and schedule medical testing. Also, billing is done and bookkeeping is required for the office or facility that they are working for. However, aside from these duties, many offices require that they do all general clerical and offices duties too.
Starting Pay and Salary
The countries average starting pay for a medical billing and coding jobs is $27,000. After approximately 20 years of service the pay is $35,000. This is an average though, each state salaries will vary, as well as other training and degrees that you hold can change your pay scale too.
The Training
The training to become a medical biller and coder is both a combination of classes and certifications, as well as on the job training. The courses required are medical terminology, anatomy, first aid, pharmaceutical procedures, health. However, there will also be classes in office procedures, medical law, medical ethics and patient doctor relations. Furthermore, you may also be required to do an internship at a facility.
Financial Aid Available
Financial aid is available through each colleges own financial sections. To receive financial aid, there will be forms to complete and submit. Each student’s application will be reviewed on a need basis and there will be councilors available to help complete the financial aid process.
